Peace Pirate Poetry Feature #9
Many of us who write poetry understand the freedom that accompanies the pen. We understand when someone says they’re able to express their true self through writing. It’s one of the primary reasons I’ve taken such a deep dive into my creativity - it’s an effective source of healing.
When I first read this piece by @a.mouse_in.my.pocket I immediately felt like it was projecting power into the heart of the reader. This, from my perspective, is for those who wish to reclaim a part of themselves. This is for those who have been broken, put in the work to recover, and are claiming ownership of their very being. This is a poem that can frighten you and inspire you all in one breath. This is a poem worth reading.
@a.mouse_in.my.pocket is a writer many of us can relate to. Their priority is self improvement and growth. Their pen simply flows. Learn more about the poet below, and read further for the original version of the poem, which includes one last line!
What got you interested in writing poetry?
I've sorta always been interested in writing. It's one of the few ways I'm able to fully express myself.
Are you currently working on anything you’d like to tell us about?
I'm really only working on bettering myself and furthering my education.
How did you come up with this beautiful poem?
I had the word "unscripted" on repeat in my head. After I read the prompt for the day, it all just flowed organically.
Here is the original version of the featured piece:
Shatter the unscripted silence
In your head, and in your heart.
Show me the skeleton that lay
beneath your skin.
I don't want to see the façade
I don't prefer prettied, candied words
over the harsh reality of who you are.
We are not meant to be half baked
in someone else's vision.
Take me as raw as I come
