Peace Pirate Poetry Feature #5

Rachel Rohler is the next Peace Pirate Poetry Feature. This piece invited me to look deeper yet remain present. It gives the reader permission to discover familiarity in the unknown. Every time I read Rachel’s work I’m reminded of the connectivity between feelings and abstract, or out-of-reach ideas. Nothing is as far away as it seems. Extraordinary things are always possible, and perhaps a lot closer to us than we allow ourselves to believe.

I enjoyed learning more about Rachel through the usual questions I send to featured artists. Poetry brings her back to childhood and allows her to hold on to some of the most important relationships we can have.

I’m also amazed by her image-inspired poetry, which is something I’d like to challenge myself to try! Poetry can find inspiration anywhere, and I find it very creative of Rachel to sit down with a unique image and write for it based on what she sees.

I’m grateful for the time Rachel spent answering the following questions, and I hope you enjoy learning a little more about her!

What got you interested in writing poetry?

Dr. Seuss and other children's rhyming books got me interested in writing poetry. My grandma read to me a lot as a child and I became an avid reader once I learned how. Plus my mom taught me about writing poetry when I was a little older. I wrote my first poem when I was 12. I also used to write short stories when I was a teenager.

Are you currently working on anything you’d like to tell us about?

I'm not currently working on anything but I like to write at least one poem a day.

How did you come up with this beautiful poem?

This was a picture prompt that I used, along with several other word prompts, to write this poem. I wrote what I saw in the image.
